Liu Shiming: Spirit of Daily Life

Art & Media Lab at The Isabel Bader Center for Performing Arts (Kingston, ON)

Curated by Daria Murphy.

February 6-16, 2024.

Liu Shiming (1926-2010) is one of the first generation of Chinese sculptors who trained in the People’s Republic of China. Known for his adeptness sculpting everyday subjects, he worked in an expressive, gestural style to capture a modern spirit derived from Chinese folk culture, dynastic history, and daily life. This exhibit brings together a collection of bronze and ceramic works from the Liu Shiming Art Foundation, New York accompanied by the words of Liu Shiming, his son Liu Wei, his friend and artistic colleague Wu Jing, and the art historian Yin Shuangxi.
